What houses are

THE THESIS
In the astrological tradition, houses mark twelve areas of life — where a planet's energy plays out — and reading them well depends on an accurate birth time.
The explanation
In the astrological tradition, the birth chart is divided into twelve houses — twelve arenas of ordinary life. The first covers self and appearance; the second, money and belongings; the third, communication; the fourth, home; and so on around the circle. A useful way to hold it: your signs describe how a planet tends to act, while the houses show where that energy plays out. Because the houses are anchored to the horizon, they depend on an accurate birth time — a few minutes can shift a planet from one house into the next. Read them as a map of life-areas to explore, not a fixed list of what befalls you.
