The Sun and Moon are the chart's two brightest lights: one names how you shine, the other what quietly steadies you. Astrologers read them as the anchor points.
The explanation
In the astrological tradition, the Sun and Moon are called the luminaries because they outshine every planet. Astrologers read the Sun as your core self — the quality you express when you feel most yourself — and the Moon as your inner needs, the things that soothe and restore you. Their zodiac signs colour how each works: a Sun's sign shades the flavour of what you shine, a Moon's sign shades what feels safe. Because these two carry so much, most readings start here and let the rest of the chart fill in around them. Think of them as themes to watch in yourself, not a verdict — you decide what to do with what you notice.
