About once every two years — every 25 to 26 months — for two to two and a half months. It's the least frequent retrograde of any planet.
Does Mars retrograde stall projects or drain energy?
No. It's an optical effect of orbital speeds, not a force acting on your drive. Projects stall for ordinary reasons — scope, fatigue, timing — in every season, retrograde or not.
